Athens 4.0 – Major improvements and new features
We’re excited to introduce Athens 4.0, a major update that brings new customization options to your Shopify store. This version focuses on improving usability while giving you even more control over your store’s design and functionality.
Important changes
To create a more seamless experience in accordance with Shopify’s native capabilities, we’ve made a few key changes:
- Theme-level search result types options removed – These settings are now managed through Shopify’s Search & Discovery app under Settings > Search relevance.
- SVG Logo input removed – Merchants previously using this feature should now upload their logos via Customize > Header > Header section > Logo Image.
Enhanced customization
- Icon option for header contact info – Added an icon for a more visually engaging contact display.
- Region/currency in footer and announcement bar – Display currency and regional settings in the footer and the announcement bar.
- Mobile menu positioning – Choose whether your mobile menu appears on the left or right.
- Centered main menu option – You can now center your main menu. Available when no secondary menu is set.
- New layout settings for cards – Adjust round corner values for cards and forms.
Product & collection improvements
- “Hide description” setting in the Featured Collection section.
- Signup block visibility in product sections – We added the option to display only when a product is out of stock.
- Add dividers to product blocks – A new option to improve layout clarity and streamline the product blocks in the Main and Featured product sections.
- Collection banner enhancements – Descriptions now have a Read more button to avoid clutter. Perfect for collections with large descriptions.
Design & UX improvements
- Image banners section – Now supports separate mobile images.
- Gift card customization – Set a custom image and adjust the width.
- Font size controls – New options for the announcement bar and and rotating text bar section.
Fixes and refinements
We’ve also addressed key issues, including:
- Stock bar fixes – Prevents incorrect backorder text display for untracked stock.
- Product title truncation – Now properly truncates before escaping.
- Various focus and accessibility improvements for a better user experience.
