Set up excerpts for your products

This guide will show you how to set up and add excerpts for your products. Excerpts are short descriptions that are displayed below the products’ titles in product listings and single product pages.

Setting up the metafield

Navigate to your store’s admin, and in the bottom left corner click on “Settings”. Then navigate to “Metafields and metaobjects” from the left-hand side menu and then click on “Products”. You should be seeing the following screen:

Click on the top right button “Add definition“, and in the screen that appears enter the following settings:

Name: Excerpt (or any name you wish).

Select type: Select “One”, and then select the “Single line text” type.

The details should be exactly as in the screenshot below:

Once done, click on the “Save” button.

Adding an excerpt to a product

After you’ve set up your metafield, you can add an excerpt to any product.

In your store’s admin, navigate to Products, create or edit an existing product, and scroll all the way down to the Product metafields section. You should see the Excerpt field we created earlier. If you don’t, click on the View all link on the top right corner of the Product metafields section.

Click on the Excerpt field and add/edit the product’s short description:

The excerpt is displayed under the title on the main product page and the Featured product section, as well as other product listing sections, such as the Featured collection and Tabbed products sections.
